Subject 1: Chowan County
Regional Fair
At the North Carolina
Association of Agricultural Fairs annual convention, January
4-6, the Chowan County Regional Fair was awarded the
prestigious Image Award for its efforts in portraying and
promoting the area in which it serves. Members of the CCRF
delegation were overwhelmed when the Image Award was
presented Friday evening at the Banquet – Showcase.
Receipt of this award is
because of dedicated volunteers who take pride in preparing
the facilities, displaying the exhibits, promoting our
youth, providing opportunities for individuals, groups,
organizations and businesses to tell their stories. The
selection process also includes the advertizing campaign,
the premium booklet, and everything from the highway, thru
the parking lot, entrance gate, exhibit buildings, grounds,
activities, community involvement, entertainment, the midway
and back to the highway.
The members of the CCRF Board
of Directors and all the volunteers, approximately 150, are
to be congratulated for their efforts. This is the third
time that the CCRF has been selected for the Image Award.
The other times were 2007 and 2008.
The CCRF also received the
Youth Award for youth participation and opportunities
provided for youth involvement in the fair. Much of the
credit for this award goes to the CCRF Junior Fair Board and
the many activities they sponsor and participate in.
Subject 2: John Chilcoat
Honored
The North Carolina Association
of Agricultural Fairs honored Chowan County Regional Fair
Vice President and Past President of the NCAOAF John
Chilcoat with the 2011 Holmes/McBride Humanitarian Award. To
receive this award an individual is recognized by peers in
the agricultural fair business for their efforts and
dedication over many years to their local fair and other
community activities and involvement and promotion of the
NCAOAF. John has been involved with the CCRF for
approximately 25 years. He was elected to the NCAOAF Board
of Directors in 1996 and served as State President of the
NCAOAF in 2005. John has served on many committees on both
the state and local level.
Subject 3: Sherri Volk
Elected
Sherri
Volk was elected to a 3 year term on the North Carolina
Association Board of Agricultural Fairs Board of Directors
Friday, January 6 at the general session of the NCAOAF.
Sherri is a member of the Chowan County Regional Fair Board
of Directors and Treasurer of the CCRF. Sherri has been
involved with the CCRF since relocating from Michigan to
Edenton approximately 10 years ago.. She is also an active
member of the Rocky Hock Lions Club and is currently serving
as President of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 40.
