POST & UNIT REGULAR MEETINGS
The Post and Unit regular meetings are Tuesday, July 6
and August 3. Mark your calendars and make plans to attend.
Invite friends and family who are eligible to become members
of the Legion family. Dinner is served at 7:15 PM and we
meet at 8:00 PM. The cost for dinner is only $5.00 per
person. Offer a member who doesn’t drive at night a ride to
the meeting.
PULL TABS
THANK YOU!!!!! if you are one who saves pull tabs for
the Ronald McDonald Houses. Please remember that only
aluminum tabs are acceptable. If you question whether or not
it is aluminum either check with a magnet or do not include.
Post 40 carried 163 pounds of tabs to the Department
Convention in June. From across the state 6,800+ pounds were
collected.
AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL
Please check the Calendar of Events for the balance of
the 2010 schedule. It is really a shame that more members do
not come out to just show support for the young men who are
representing us. Thanks to two of our Auxiliary members
(Sherri & Brenda) who have worked the concession trailer.
Thanks to John for spotting foul balls and Dale for working
the gate. There are others who helped, Ronnie and Tom
announcing, Mark doing whatever needed, Nancy operating the
scoreboard to name a few. The kids just need more than their
parents in the stands rooting for them.
ANTIQUE TRACTOR & EQUINE SHOW
Post 40 with the CCRF Board of Directors taking the
lead, will sponsor the 1st annual Antique Tractor
and Equine Expo on Saturday, August 7, 2010. The profits
from the event will go to the fund to construct a museum
building to house early 1900’s farm equipment that was used
by our forefathers here in northeastern NC. The work in
progress plans call for antique tractors on display, in a
parade and a drill team demonstration. The Currituck 4-H has
taken the lead to put on an Equestrian Gymkhana, fun and
games on horseback. There will be a plowing and planting
demonstration with draft horses, an antique hay baling demo
and much more. Admission to the day’s events will be free
but donations are appreciated. There will be Pork BBQ plate
sales and hamburgers and hot dogs available. Help is needed
to sell BBQ plate tickets and to work concessions. Don’t be
afraid to volunteer.
SHRIMP FEAST
The 19th annual Shrimp Feast, sponsored by
our SAL Squadron 40 will be Saturday, September 11, 2010.
Tickets will go on sell in mid July. Profits from the Shrimp
Feast are used to help fund American Legion Baseball
sponsored by Post 40. There will be plenty of food, fun and
music. Get your tickets early.
CHOWAN COUNTY REGIONAL FAIR
The CCRF dates are September 28 thru October 2. Now is
the time to be getting your exhibits ready. This year’s
theme is “Growing Better Communities”. One of the programs
associated with this will be “Neighbors Helping Neighbors”.
In co-operation with Farmer’s Foods and Food Lion we will be
collecting non-perishable food items for the Food Pantry.
There will be a “Food Pantry Drop Off Booth” by the gate
entrance. Encourage your friends and family to support this
effort to help our neighbors who are suffering through
difficult times. Let your family and friends know they can
save $3.00 per ticket by buying their admission tickets in
advance. Gate admission this year is $18.00 ($15.00 in
advance). For all information about the fair and other Post
happenings go to
www.chowanfair.com.

MEMBERSHIP
The 2011 Legion year starts July 1. If you have not
received your dues notice as yet you will soon. Don’t lay it
aside with the thought that you will get to it next month.
BE AN EARLY BIRD, go ahead and write that check for
$30.00 and drop it in the mail or by the Post. There is a
lot of energy expended on membership renewal that can be
better spent on promoting the programs of The American
Legion that Post 40 sponsors and supports. Numbers make a
difference when our State and National leaders appear before
our elected representatives. Please mail your renewal now so
that more time can be spent on the other programs.
FREE ACCIDENTAL LIFE INSURANCE
When your 2011 membership card is mailed, included will
be a form to be filled out and sent to LIT to activate your
free accidental life insurance. It is your responsibility to
complete and mail this form to get the free insurance
coverage. The coverage will remain in force thru 2016 as
long as your annual dues are paid by August 31. Should your
membership lapse you will then have to complete another form
to reactivate.

July 15, 2010 just prior to sunset (approximately 7 PM). If
you have flags that need proper retirement please drop them
by the Post or bring them with you as you come to observe
the Flag Retirement Ceremony.
CLUBROOM
Your clubroom is one of the finest private clubrooms in
the area. If you haven’t visited lately you should drop by.
You can order soft drinks if you prefer. It is the
friendship and relaxation that is important.
BINGO
Bingo provides vital income so that Post 40 can sponsor
and support many worthwhile community concerns. Volunteer
help is critical in providing customer service to the
players. If you can give 4 hours one Monday night a month it
will be greatly appreciated. Just show up about 6 PM and
training is free.
SONS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION
